Description
The current Imperial Palace is located on the grounds of the former Edo Castle, a large park area surrounded by moats and massive stone walls located in the center of Tokyo. The Edo Castle was formerly the seat of the shogun in Kyoto, who ruled Japan from 1603 to 1867. In 1868 the shogun was overthrown and the Japanese capital was moved from Kyoto to Tokyo. In 1888 construction of the present Imperial Palace was completed; however it was destroyed during WWII. After the war it was rebuilt in its original style, which exists today. Visitors are not allowed inside the Palace, but may tour the grounds and gardens surrounding it. This beautiful swan was relaxing in the moat enjoying the Tokyo weather. Just had to include this one.
