Description
Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe, is considered to be the overall largest waterfall in the world. With its combination of width, 5604 ft., height, 354 feet and high-water flow, over 500,000,000 gal. it is a truly awe inspiring site. The falls are along the Zambezi River which separates the countries of Zambia and Zimbabwe. During the high water season (April) the mist from the falls can be seen from over 30 miles away. David Livingstone, the Scottish explorer is believed to be the first European to view the falls in 1855. This image depicts the first cataract, a narrow channel through which the flow of the Zambezi River "explodes" down the falls. The force of this flow during peak season (shown here) is indescribable.
