Description
The lower Yellowstone Falls drops 308 feet along the Yellowstone River in Yellowstone National Park. It is the largest waterfall in the Rocky Mountains (by volume). The water from the lower falls then flows through a steep, narrow canyon that is named the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone as it makes its journey north. There are several good viewing points along the lower falls and the canyon. This image was taken from Artist's Point, which gives the visitor the longest view of the falls and the Grand Canyon. One of the best aspects of the Lower Falls is that access to the viewpoints is extremely easy. In many cases one must take a long and sometimes rigorous hike to reach other waterfalls, but the Lower Falls of the Yellowstone are very easy to access. All the viewpoints provide interesting views of the falls and the river. Artist's Point just happens to be my favorite.
