Description
The Atlanta Marriott Marquis is a 53 story hotel in downtown Atlanta, Georgia. It is the 15th tallest skyscraper in the city. The building was designed by Atlanta architect John C. Portman and was completed in 1985. One of the defining features of the Marriott Marquis is the 53 story atrium, which, upon completion was the largest in the world. The atrium consists of two chambers divided by elevator shafts. Its ultra-contemporary design is simply amazing and has to be seen in person to fully appreciate its futuristic styling. Portman, the architect, is known for its unique atrium designs, and was the first to design a modernistic atrium in its first hotel, opened in 1967. As a lover of contemporary and futuristic architecture, this photographer believes that the atrium of the Atlanta Marriott Marquis is absolutely awe-inspiring.
