Description
Avalanche Falls is a narrow stream of melted glacier ice that begins at the glacier on top of the mountain. It flows into Avalanche Lake at the bottom. Avalanche Lake is a 4 mile hike from a designated parking lot located off the Going-to-the-Sun-Road, 14 miles from the Apgar Visitor Center in west Glacier. The trail is a moderate (500 ft.) elevation gain and at times is very close to Avalanche Creek, a waterway with large boulders and fast rushing water. The mountain scene and the creek are very picturesque and make the hike very worthwhile.
