Artist's Description

The iconic landmark Brooklyn Bridge was constructed between 1869 and 1883. The bridge was conceived by John Roebling, a German immigrant. Roebling was injured during the construction and his son, Washington, was designated to complete the bridge. The bridge is famous, not only for its innovative engineering concepts, but also for its magnificent appearance. The classic stone towers are built of limestone, granite and Rosendale cement. The completion of the bridge opened up Brooklyn and western Long Island to growth and connectivity to manhattan. It was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1964.
