View of the Ponte Vecchio and Arno River from the Piazzale Michelangelo. This place affords a phenomenal view of a large portion of Florence. The bridge is a medieval stone closed-spandral arch bridge that spans the Arno at its narrowest point. It was first built in Roman times, but has been destroyed and rebuilt at least two times. The most notable characteristic of the Ponte Vecchio is that is still houses shops and merchants.
