Description
The Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park is a memorial to all those victims of the Atomic Bomb attack that took place on August 6, 1945. It is dedicated to the legacy of Hiroshima as the first city in the world to suffer a nuclear attack. The park was built in an open field that was created by the explosion. Within the park are the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum, that contains a very moving account of the attack and its aftermath; also the park contains a children's peace monument and a Cenotpah (shown in the image here) a concrete, saddle-shaped monument holding the names of all the people killed by the bomb. The arch shape represents a shelter for the souls of the victims.
