Description
The Kiyomizu-dera Buddhist Temple complex sits on a large hill overlooking Kyoto, Japan. It contains a main hall, a pagoda, a veranda and a waterfall where three channels of water fall into a pond. The temple was founded in the early Heian period around 778 and its present buildings were built in 1633. There is not a single nail in the entire structure, which makes viewing the temple all the more impressive. The Kiyomizu-dera Temple is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
