Description
The Rialto Bridge is the oldest of the four bridges spanning the Grand Canal in Venice, Italy. The bridge has been built and rebuilt several times over the centuries. The current bridge, a stone arch, was constructed between 1588 and 1591. Construction was difficult due to the unstable soil beneath the canal. The bridge is formed by two inclined ramps, with shops on either side, covered by a portico. This famous landmark has become one of the top tourist attractions in Venice.
