Description
Singapore is the capital of the republic of Singapore, a sovereign island nation in Southeast Asia. Once a part of Malaysia, Singapore gained its independence in 1965. Its history dates back at least a millennium and it has had a tumultuous history. It was part of the British Empire for many years and was occupied by Japan during World War II. Today, it consists of one main island and 63 satellite islands. It is one of the most densely populated cities in the world, as well as one of the most prosperous. It boasts one of the largest and busiest ports in the world. The southern tip of Singapore lies only 85 miles north of the equator, giving it a not and humid year-round climate.
The people of Singapore enjoy one of the best life standards in the world: They have a high home ownership rate; they have one of the highest life expectancy rates in the world; they are highly educated; they enjoy exceptional healthcare, personal safety, fast internet speeds and many other high quality of life metrics.
Singapore boasts many interesting tourist attractions, from its old temples to its beautiful botanical gardens, to some of the most spectacular architecture in Southeast Asia.
