Description
The Watson Mill Covered Bridge is a 229 foot wooden bridge over the South Fork of the Broad River in northeastern Georgia. It is the longest covered bridge in the State. Georgia once had over 200 covered bridges, but today only about 20 remain.
The Watson Mill Bridge was constructed 1n 1885 by Washington (W.W.) King, the son of a freed slave and famous covered bridge builder, Horace King. The bridge is supported by a town lattice truss system held firmly together with tree nails. The bridge is still open to automobile traffic today.
The Watson Mill Bridge is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
