Artist's Description
One of the most famous landmarks in Florence is the Ponte Vecchio bridge over the Arno River. It is noted for still having shops built along it. It appears to have first been constructed in about 996. The Roman piers were of stone; the superstructure of wood. It has been destroyed and rebuilt three times.
