Description
The Old Sautee General Store dates back to 1872. The store served the local community with general goods and was even a post office for the valley until the 1940's. The front portion of the store is reminiscent of the old country stores of the past where visitors can now participate in the old time charm of the country general store. These shelves hold original container of goods that were common over 100 years ago in general stores.
The Sautee Nachoochee Valley is an unincorporated community in White County, Ga., in the Appalachian foothills of northeast Georgia, approximately 95 miles from Atlanta. The origin of the name goes back to an old Indian folk legend where a beautiful Cherokee maiden named Nacoochee fell in love with a Chickawaw warrior named Sautee. The Sautee Valley Historic District was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1986.
