This mid-day image of the Bryce Amphitheater was taken at approximately 10:45 a.m. in October, 2019 from Inspiration Point. The Bryce Amphitheater contains the largest number of hoodoos in the world. Inspiration Point is aptly named for the breathtaking view of the amphitheater that it gives the visitor.
Hoodoos are tall, thin spires of rock that protrude from the bottom of an arid drainage basin. Hoodoos generally consist of relatively soft rock topped by harder, less easily eroded stone that protects each column from the elements. They generally form within sedimentary rock and volcanic rock formations. They are generally found in the desert in dry, hot areas
Bryce Canyon National Park is an American national park located in southwestern Utah. Bryce is actually not a canyon, but a collection of giant natural amphitheaters along the eastern side of the Paunsaugunt Plateau. It is home to the largest collection of hoodoos in the world.
