Description
The White City refers to a collection of over 4000 buildings built in a unique form of Bauhaus or International Style in Tel Aviv, Israel, from the 1930's by German Jewish architects and builders who immigrated to Israel after the rise of the Nazis in Germany. This area boasts the largest number of buildings of the Bauhaus/International Style of any city in the world. The Bauhaus principles included functionality and the use of inexpensive building materials, which was considered ideal in Tel Aviv at the time. The area has been well-preserved and is still a wonderful section of Tel Aviv in which to walk from street to street to take in the amazing designs that are now close to 90 years old. The White City was named a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2003.
