A cute little red-painted turf house catches one's eye in the village of Bakkagerdi in East Island. Turf houses are an architectural heritage in Iceland, but there are only a few of them remaining. Turf houses are essentially grass roofed houses. Turf is also known as sod, a material containing grass on top of soil. The construction of these turf houses dates back to the early settlers of Iceland. The use of turf is insulation - they provide excellent insulation during the cold Icelandic winters. They are also architecturally unique and interesting since they are not prevalent in most of the world.
Photography is one of my main passions in life. I love photographing anything I see that is beautiful, unusual or special. I enjoy shooting nature, landscape, landmarks, animals, architecture and anything else I see that strikes me as worthy of a camera shot. I especially enjoy travel photography and have been fortunate to have seen many wonderful places in this incredible world of ours.
