Description
The Grand Palace in Bangkok, Thailand, was constructed beginning in 1782 by the order of King Rama I. It has been the royal residence of the Kings of Siam and Thailand since completion. It is part of an enormous complex of the same name that encompases 2,351,000 sq. ft. Included in the wall-in compound is the famous and religiously significant Temple of the Emerald Buddha, which is housed in a beautifully designed and decorated building in the area of the Grand Palace called Wat Phra Kaew. This section of the Grand Palace also contains numerous other buildings and shrines, all with distinctive and ornate decorations. The Grand Palace is a must-see on any visit to Bangkok.
