Description
The Kanazawa Castle is located next to the celebrated Kenrokuen Garden, which once formed the castle's outer garden. It was the headquarters of the Kaga Domain, ruled by the Maeda clan for 14 generations until 1871. The original castle was built in the 1580's, burned down in 1602 and again in 1631 and again in 1759. Following the takeover and restoration by the Meii domain the castle was turned over to the Imperial Japanese Army in 1871. Most of the current structures are reconstructions based on how the castle looked in the 1850's.
