Description
Mykonos is is a Greek Island, part of the Cyclades, and one of the more popular tourist islands of the Greek Isles. The capital and largest town is Chora, having a population of about 12,500. Mykonos boasts a vibrant nightlife and is a stop for many of the cruise ships that carry tourists around the Mediterranean Sea during the summer months. Walking through the narrow marble streets and admiring the whitewashed houses with colorful doors and window frames, bougainvillea trees and relaxing at one of the numerous bars and restaurants is a delight.
Mykonos was inhabited as early as the 11th century B.C. It was controlled by the Romans and later became part of the Byzantine Empire. It then went through a steady change of occupation until 1830, when Greece became an independent state.
