Description
The Taftsville Covered Bridge is one of the most attractive covered bridges in Vermont. Located in the Taftsville Village of Woodstock, Vt., the Taftsville Covered Bridge was built in 1836 by Solomon Emmons III.The bridge spans 189 feet over the Ottauquechee River. Unlike many other covered bridges of the time the Taftsville bridge utilized an unusual design known as the modified kingpost truss concept and added semi-independent laminated arches. In addition to its shape and natural architectural appeal, this construction method makes the Taftsville Covered Bridge unique among Vermont Covered Bridges. The Taftsville Covered Bridge was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1973.
