Description
The Upper Cox Brook Covered Bridge stands west of the village of Northfield Falls, Vt., in the central part of the state. It is one of three covered bridges crossing Cox Brook. The bridge is of the Queen Post Truss design, its two 52 ft. trusses resting on concrete abutments. The trusses are set at an offset, skewed to form a parallelogram. The gabled roof is covered by metal and the exterior is clad in vertical board siding. The bridge deck consists of steel I-beams supporting wooded planks. The siding does not rise all the way to the roof, leaving an open strip between them, and there are long rectangular strip openings on the sides, sheltered by projected siding. The bridge was constructed in 1872, and was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1974.
