Description
One of the most controversial places on earth, the Old City in Jerusalem, Israel, is a .35 sq. mi. area in eastern Jerusalem, that has been fought over by almost every religious and military group in that part of the world for centuries. Each of the three major religions claims that Jerusalem is their center and the controversy over governance of the area continues to this day. Most people are aware of at least some of the history of the Old City, but it would take forever to truly tell the story of the many periods and all the famous characters in Jerusalem's history. It is an amazing place, no matter what one's religious beliefs are, and a must-see on a visit to Israel. It was named a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1981.
